Libraries provide informal support, they are raising national literacy levels, supporting families and reaching out into their communities to make them stronger and more cohesive. Now picture what your island would be like without a library. For many people, a library
is a place for information. When most people think "library," they think books. And while that is certainly true, these days books take different shapes, such as e-books and audio-books.
The library is more than books, libraries are places of information, offering people free access to a wealth of information that they often can't find elsewhere, whether online, in print or in person. Whether they're looking for DVDs or the latest best-seller; health or business information found on internet databases not accessible at home, It is a hub that connects people to information, libraries connect people to people.
They are safe havens for kids when school is not in session, offering after school homework help, games and book clubs. Libraries offer computer classes, enabling older adults to stay engaged in a digital world. Libraries help the curious mind and help dreamer explore their possible future.
It is a national embarrassment that the Grenadian government don't see or feel the urgency in addressing our library situation. I stay connected and share my frustration with my Grenadian family. The government lack honesty and transparency, poor management, and given to narcissism. Our so-call leaders unapologetically prioritize serving themselves over the people they were elected to serve. We have to hold them accountable and demand the Government of Grenada to undertake the necessary restoration work to achieve the reopening immediately!
